REVOLUTION
The manuscript known as Egerton 3665 (now held in the British Library) is a treasure trove of incredible music. Scribed in the early 17th Century, it existed in England yet clearly contains a propensity of music by Italian composers. Often discussed alongside the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, a large proportion of its repertoire may not have been performed since the time of the manuscript’s creation. L’Isola will explore works from within the manuscript over several 6 week ‘subscription style’ series, with initial lecture-recitals (where audiences gain an intimate understanding of the musical context of the manuscript) leading to a final performance of both yours and our top pieces from across the 6 weeks. We are attempting to explore the entirety of the c. 700 pieces contained within this astonishing piece of history. Come and be a part of the journey…
